Dungeon Hacker is a group illustration show at Diode Gallery, and the first iteration of an augmented reality dungeon crawler from Lumenal Code. The show features original illustrations by Dan Cohen, Ryan Johnson, Andy Lunday and Gabe Shaughnessy and was on display at Diode Gallery during the months of February and March, 2015.
By scanning the illustrations in the show with Layar, visitors can play an interactive game. You choose a player, pick up enchanted items and face terrible monsters as you hack and slash your way through the gallery in augmented reality.

Playing the Game

The instructions start you off by selecting a character Choose from one of 12 characters Scan the image with Layar to view the character profile and tap to select the character After selecting a character, you'll have one crypto-credit to spend. This allows you to select one item. Scan an item to learn about it, then tap the button to purchase the item. Andy Lunday and Ryan Johnson each created a set of items, and each item gives you either charisma, knowledge or creativity. DH_Opening-1

Now you’re ready to face the monsters. Defeat all three monsters to face the boss, The Gibson Supercomputer!

Choose a monster you are well-suited to fight, then scan it with Layar. If you are ready to fight the monster, you tap on the image to start. Each monster has unique strengths and weaknesses, so you'll need the right combination of character and items to defeat them. Once you defeat all the monsters, you are ready to face The Gibson! If you defeat the gibson, you win the game!

Finding the Gallery

Diode Gallery is located at 514 NW Couch, right across the street from Ground Kontrol in downtown Portland, Oregon. The gallery is open the night of February 5th from 6-9pm for the Dungeon Hacker show, and otherwise by special appointment only.

  • Dan CohenDan Cohen

    Dan Cohen is an Artist of the New-Renaissance. He is a classically trained painter, sculptor, muralist, writer, and philosopher.   • Andy LundayAndy Lunday

    Andy Lunday is a Portland, OR based artist, illustrator, and designer from Helena, MT. He sees an elaborate visual connection between old hand lettered signage, gardening, office supplies, and coffee that he hasn’t quite cracked. He gets his inspiration from bike rides and long walks during which he likes to see what’s blooming and judge the landscaping of your home.     You can usually find Gabe geeking out on some art installation, interface or web application, using a toolset that ranges from paint to pixels. His passion is story-telling, and making those stories interactive, so he leverages his experience as a web developer and background in visual art to craft one-of-a-kind experiences on the web, out in the world, and in augmented reality.
